Onça’s Technique & Props for Belly Dance and Vaudeville
2:00-5:00pm $50 (by April 14th) $60 after or at the door
Adapt your dance posture to express both your inner belly dancer and your showgirl. Warm-ups and conditioning followed by drills and tips for sustainable technique, body awareness for the stage, and work with flamenco-inspired fan. Most fans will work: feather fans and fan veils will be discussed, but are not usable for the purposes of this workshop. Fans will be for sale at the event, or bring your own!
Melody & Improvisation for Musicians w/August
12:00-2:00pm $35
Learn traditional Balkan and Middle Eastern riffs. Improvisation is de-mystified! Explore a method for playing intuitively and spontaneously-- August will teach some guidelines that can improve soloing and playing off the cuff. He will discuss how to play a supportive role with other musicians and how to manage group dynamics.
The Mezmer Society was founded in the Autumn of 2007 and fits loosely within the Tribal Fusion genre. Some of the elements that are fused include belly dance, cabaret performance, Romany music, foppish occultism, unapologetically pretentious Belle Époque café living, goodwill, bad behavior, misappropriated pop songs, and the horribly misguided notion that one can try and squeeze an entire Balkan brass band into one accordion.
The Show will feature Gaiananda and Navatas with special guests The Mezmer Society. Doors open at 7:30 pm with the hafla to follow. Advanced tickets are $15, $20 at the door. Tickets are available on Sundays at the World Rhythms Center or on line. Please visit www.gaiananda for more information.

Re: Workshops with Onca and August of Mezmer Society
Sun, April 27, 2008 - 12:13 PMThe melodic instrument workshop with August was great. The small turnout let him give a lot of individual attention, but I suspect that the number of attendees would grow if you had instrument workshops on a regular basis.
Thanks, guys. Your events are great.
